Sleep my child, close your eyes
I wish you pleasant dreams tonight
Dream of happy days gone by
Flowery meadows, sunny skies

Days when laughter filled the air
Your shoulders had no burden to bear
Days when life was full of love
Showered in blessings from above

Dream not of war my little one
Dream not of battles, lost or won
Count the privilege of peaceful slumber
Now as blessings are so few in number

Sleep my child, close your eyes
I wish you pleasant dreams tonight
And while you dream, I shall weep
For peace is found now only in sleep
I wrote this poem from the perspective of a mother singing a lullaby to her child during a war that had been raging for may years. It was originally for one of my stories (unfortunately it's been placed on the back burner for the time being) and I wanted to present the pain she was feeling in the midst of the love for her baby.

Wow. This is really deep. And sad. :( Very relevant to people living in such conditions as we speak.

(and throughout the centuries too of course)
